We’re Getting Noticed!
There is a whole new awareness of families like ours today, and we are happy to offer help, support, advice, and friendship to men and women who find that they have married or become sexually involved with an LGBT person. Real support at an unreal time is truly what we are about. Continue reading
Affirmation
Very few people ask how a straight spouse is doing and what we need. Those who do will often not keep asking. We need help. We need understanding. We need affirmation. Continue reading

Pretzel Logic
Here are a few examples of pretzel logic:
I had to have sex with men/women because you didn’t give me what I needed.
Its not cheating if its with the same sex. Continue reading

Helping Clergy Help Straight Spouses
Recently, two support facilitators with the Straight Spouse Network met with a group of Evangelical clergy and lay ministers. The purpose of the meeting was to let them know of the existence of the Straight Spouse Network, and how we can be a resource for them Continue reading

So What’s Next? Life!
What happens next? After disclosure, after discovery, after divorce – what happens after the drama of a marriage ending because one of the partners is gay or lesbian? What happens to the forgotten partner, the straight spouse? Continue reading
Future Outlook
Well, like it or not, my husband came out of the closet, wants out so that he can start his life over and the sooner it happens for him, the better. I could fight it, dig in with both heels. Stall things or bring them to a screeching halt. Hang out for a few more years if I feel like it. But I don’t want to do that. The trouble is, I never saw myself as a divorced person. After 24+ years of marriage, one would think that things wouldn’t change dramatically. But life goes on, whether I agree with the premise or not. Continue reading

We’re Famous – Or is That Infamous?
The Straight Spouse Network had a bit of fame this week. After quite a bit of time between interviews, the Associated Press published an article about Amity Buxton and other California Straight Spouses, and their opposition to Prop 8. You can read the widely distributed article here. Nevertheless, among many of our straight spouses, there is a discomfort with supporting gay marriage. It may also be a surprise that we are not a large “gay agenda” funded pro gay group with large donations and professional grant writers. We are a peer to peer support network for straight people who are picking up the pieces of their own lives and that of their families after they discover their husband or wife is gay. We operate on a shoestring and depend on volunteer support. Continue reading

We’d like to thank Tracy Lawanda for her excellent interview of Amity Buxton on her blog Aword4U. The interview was featured on BlogtalkRadio. Amity appears approximately 10 minutes into the show. This is a Christian show, and Tracy asked a lot of great questions of Amity. Much of the discussion centers around truth in marriage. Continue reading
