Help Straight Spouses by becoming a Contact or Group Facilitator

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Straight Spouse Network contact or group facilitator, and for your desire to support other straight spouses in their journey. It is vitally important that they know they aren't alone, and the Straight Spouse Network accomplishes that with the help of many dedicated and giving people like you! There are contacts and face to face groups all over the United States, and in several other countries as well, providing support to countless straight spouses as they navigate their way through what for many is a devastating experience.

All group facilitators and contacts support the SSN mission of reaching out, healing, and building bridges. Every straight spouse that contacts SSN looking for support deserves to have their way of dealing with their own situation respected. It's important that contacts and group facilitators be far enough along in their own journey that listening to other's pain and perhaps very different ways of dealing with their situation doesn't cause the contact or group facilitator a great deal of emotional distress. Therefore, we ask that you be at least two years into your journey before you support others in this way. You will be asked to fill out a form giving us an idea of your strengths, and giving us some basic information. There is a link to this form at the bottom of this letter. We will then phone you to confirm interest, explain the process a bit further, and answer any questions. When this is done, your application will be forwarded to the SSN Executive Director for final approval, and when given, you will be added to our database and referrals from your area will be made to you. You will have all the support and helpful information you need available to you once you are approved. You will also be able to communicate with other contacts or leaders.

Criteria For A Straight Spouse Network Contact/Group Facilitator

Prospective Candidate...

• Has a desire to provide support to other straight spouses, using the SSN mission of healing, reaching out and building bridges as a guide, and agrees to the affiliation guidelines - which include: the facilitator/contact is nonjudgmental, supportive of whatever route a spouse takes short of endangerment to anyone, non-directive, and open minded regarding the diversity of situations.
• Is at least two years into their journey and considers him or herself in a fairly stable place emotionally. (This is not to say they need to consider themselves completely healed).
• Is willing to provide the needed information about him or herself for the application process.
• Is willing to be listed in our database and contact or Facilitator email list (used to communicate with all contacts or leaders).
• Is willing to keep demographic (non-identifying) records regarding spouses contacting them, and spouses served in any way.
• Is willing to provide info as requested for any record keeping or fundraising purpose.
• Is willing to participate in training, when available and applicable.
• Will provide the SSN Support/Field Services Coordinator with any changes in their personal information as soon as possible after the change occurs.
